A DEVOTED charity volunteer who helped establish Weston Hospicecare has died.
Ruth Burgess was one of the group who established the charity in 1989, and subsequently founded the friends group which raises funds for the organisation.
Born in Weston in 1925, she grew up in the town and was educated at Rossholme School and Weston Grammar School.
She worked in the town tax office and also became involved in the guiding movement, where she led a local pack.
She was also a long-standing congregation member at Christ Church in Montpelier, where she served as secretary for 50 years.
She was one of the founding members of the hospicecare, and was then instrumental in the move from its old headquarters at Branton House in Montpelier, to Jackson-Barstow house in Uphill.
She died on March 10, aged 86. Her funeral was held at Weston Crematorium on April 3.
