Privacy and dignity offered to patients has been rated as ‘excellent’ for the first time in the 2012 Patient Environment Action Teams’ (PEAT) inspection, run by the National Patient Safety Agency.

Food served to patients was also rated excellent, with cleanliness rated ‘good’.

The hospital revealed it had no recorded diagnoses of the MRSA infection in the financial year 2011-12 – evidence of its standards of cleanliness, a spokesman said.

Each inspection is carried out by a team of NHS staff including nurses, matrons, doctors as well as various mangers and directors.

They also include patients and members of the public.

Weston Area Health NHS Trust director of nursing Irene Gray said: “This year’s PEAT scores are a well-deserved reflection of all the hard work that has gone on in the hospital in these areas over the past year.

“The trust is committed to high standards to meet the care needs of all our patients.

“We work hard to deliver a quality service with dignity at the forefront of everything that we do.

“Our patients’ exit cards, which they fill in on the day they go home, overwhelmingly show that the food we serve and the choices we offer are meeting with their approval.

“We also take cleanliness very seriously and are pleased to have maintained our good record throughout the year.

“We are, however, never complacent, and are continually appealing to patients to help us by pointing out any suggestions they may have for improving in these areas still further.”

  • Pity the same cannot be said about this hospital's A&E Dept - a 2 hour wait was plenty of time to observe just how inefficient this unit is. The worst case was a cardiac patient who had to wait 20 minutes before he was seen to - he was then forced to walk into a consultancy room before he was chaired out to the treatment centre - simply outrageous!
