This week’s Humans of Weston instalment comes from 29-year-old mother Sarah Bingham, who is raising money in aid of Meningitis Now.

Sarah will be holding a charity event on April 24 at the Nightjar pub, in Nightingale Court in Worle, after her son Caleb developed meningococcal septicaemia when he was nine months old.

She will cut off her hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust and is also hoping to raise about £1,500 for Meningitis Now.

Sarah said: “The symptoms started off like a little bruise and started to grow. His speech has been affected and he is about a year behind in development.

“I certainly never thought it would happen to us but it did. It wasn’t until his heart stopped and they told us to call our family to come and say goodbye that it hit us. I thought he was going to die.

“I want to raise the money so it can help families who have already lost someone.”
