POLICE seized more than 300 cannabis plants and arrested a man in a raid at a Weston property at 8.30am this morning.
Three rooms of the property in Mendip Road, just off Locking Road, and the outdoor garage were converted into cultivation rooms full of the plants.
The upstairs attic was also converted to grow cannabis.
The raid comes after a similar number of plants were seized in raids on Hurst Road last week.
Officers estimated the plants to be worth more than £100,000 and could even have a street value of up to £600,000.
Police broke down the back door with a battering ram while others surrounded the house to block off escape routes and arrested a man on suspicion of production of cannabis.
The man was sleeping on a bed in the kitchen as the rest of the house had been kitted out with hydroponics equipment, including heavy duty electric cabling and a pump in the bath.
Another warrant in Orchard Street at 8.15am saw a man arrested on suspicion of production of a controlled substance.
Police described the raid as one of the most successful warrants yet and urged the public to stay vigilant to help clamp down on drugs.
Sgt Colin Bachelor said of the Mendip Road raid: “This is a great result for the South Ward team because we received information from the community and were able to act to seize a large number of plants.
“We are always increasing our proactivity with regards to drugs and ask anyone concerned about cannabis to call us or Crimestoppers if they have any information.”
