A new fast food restaurant will open at a motorway service station, if planning permission is secured.

KFC has submitted a planning application to Sedgemoor District Council to build a drive-thru branch at the northbound Sedgemoor Services on the M5.

If approved the restaurant will be built on an area used for parking and an unused plot of grass.

A KFC spokesman said: “We can confirm one of our franchise partners has made a planning application for a KFC at Sedgemoor Motorway Services and depending on
the outcome we hope to have some good news in the future.”

Sedgemoor District Council’s economic development team is supporting the plans, saying drivers ‘appreciate choice’ and the restaurant will ‘bring prosperity’ to the area.

The proposed restaurant would expected to create 16 jobs.

The consultation period for the application ends on March 15.
