The Liberal Democrats has announced its Weston parliamentary candidate for the next General Election.

Patrick Keating will lead its bid to reclaim the seat it lost to Conservative John Penrose in 2005.

The Lib Dems ran Mr Penrose close in Weston in 2010, but its vote share has regressed to around 10 per cent since.

Mr Keating lives in Blagdon and is ‘delighted’ at being selected by the party to stand in 2022.

He said: “It will be a big challenge, but the Government is failing the residents of Weston and the villages as the economy and public services are suffering as a result of its policies.”

“The Liberal Democrats has been invigorated by a surge in members who are passionate about a vision for an open, tolerant and united UK.”

The next General Election is due to be held in 2022.
