One man has been taken to hospital in Bristol with minor injuries, according to Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

A police spokesman said: “The incident happened shortly after 3am.

“One man sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

“Both vehicles are in the process of being recovered but this is expected to take some time.

“Delays are likely and so motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes where possible.”

Motorists are being diverted off the M5 at junction 19, while lorry drivers are asked to exit at junction 18 (Avonmouth) and rejoin at junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare).
