Part of the M5 will be shut tonight (Wednesday) for ‘safety repair work’ to be carried out.

The southbound side of the motorway will be shut between junctions 23 (Highbridge) and 24 (Bridgwater) from 8pm tonight.

Highways England expects it to reopen by 6am tomorrow morning (Thursday).

Its spokesman says the closure is to ‘enable emergency resurfacing work to be carried out over three lanes of the Huntworth Viaduct carriageway’.

A diversion route will be in place from junction 23, via the A39 and A38, to rejoin the M5 at junction 24.
