A PROPERTY in Highbridge was engulfed in fire last night (Tues).

Nine fire appliances attended the boarded-up Highbridge Hotel, in Market Street, at around 9.30pm after numerous calls were made to the service.

Firefighters, who had trouble gaining access to the building, worked with six jets to tackle the blaze.

Crews scaled down their operation at around midnight and there is still one engine and a hydraulic platform at the scene to help dampen down any hot spots.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin today (Wed).
