Generous Freemasons have donated £1,000 to Weston Hospicecare in memory of a close friend.

The money was raised by the Woodspring Masonic Lodge through a variety of fundraisers throughout the year including fish and chip suppers and raffles.

Past president Richard Gape visited the hospice in Uphill to hand over the proceeds from his year in office.

Richard chose to donate to the charity because it supported a dear family friend Lindsay Wilkins in his final days.

Lindsay and his wife Cheralyn spent more than a month together at the hospice last year.

Cheralyn said: “The hospice let me move in with him here for five weeks – before that I didn’t realise all the work that went on here and what a wonderful job everyone does.”

Cheralyn visited Jackson Barstow House with Richard to hand the money over to the hospice.
