FAMILY and friends will gather later this month to pay tribute to a popular 27-year-old on the anniversary of her death.

A memorial service dedicated to Alice Hicks will be held at the church of St Peter and St Paul in Bleadon on September 24.

Alice was airlifted to hospital last September after her Mini collided with another vehicle on the A38 near Rooksbridge.

The former Broadoak pupil, who lived in Bleadon with her family for most of her life, died in Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, later the same day.

Her father Ray said this week: “When Alice died last September we were all so traumatised by the suddenness of her death that we went through the funeral almost like automatons.

“We were surrounded by relatives and friends who helped us survive another day.

“Without them we could not have coped.

“The very large number of friends and acquaintances who attended her funeral sustained us and brought home to us how much Alice was loved and respected by everyone she met.

“Her death had a profound effect, not only on the family, but on many people who we scarcely knew, many of whom relied on her for support and comfort.

“Alice was the centre of the family’s universe and she played a vital role in all its activities and decisions.

“Since her death it feels as though the company CEO has left.

“We do not know what to do but fill in the days with routine trivia.

“Last October at her funeral service we entrusted Alice to the loving care of Jesus.

“Now that a year has passed, the memorial service will give the family and the many friends who loved her the opportunity to renew their prayers for her.

“They will also be able to quietly remember the good times they shared with her and reflect on the effect she had on their lives and how it has been changed by her tragic death.”

The service will be held at noon on September 24 and Alice’s friends and family are welcome to attend.
