TRIBUTES have been paid to a Winscombe woman who dedicated much of her time to serving the village.

Phyllis Cram served as a school governor for more than 20 years, was a long-term member of the parish council and one of the founding members of the Winscombe and Sandford History Society.

She helped transform the old school building into a community centre and was active on the committee. She was a member of several branches of the Women’s Institute and an active supporter of the transition of the railway line into the Strawberry Line, the Millennium Green and Sandford Station Heritage Centre. A weather vane, topped by a figure of Hope copied from her favourite brooch, has been newly installed on the community centre in her memory. She died aged 93.
