MORE strong wind and heavy rain is expected to batter the South West over the next few days.
The weekend saw trees felled and river levels rising, with the extreme weather likely to continue, according to the MET Office.Pictures of a tree being ripped down in Weston’s Grove Park were sent in by readers Steve Carr and Zara Lockwood via the Mercury’s new readers’ news site, Weston.iwitness24.co.uk.
Reader Neil Gibson also uploaded a shot of a tree falling into the road on the A370.
All rivers in North Somerset are on flood alert ahead of forecasts of more bad weather.
The MET Office’s official advice states: “Further heavy rainfall is likely across parts of southwest England during the first half of Monday, in combination with gusts of wind to around 50mph in places, perhaps 60mph on exposed southern coasts.”
Overnight winds and rain have taken their toll on Weston, the A370 was partially blocked by a fallen tree.Tuesday is likely to see even more widespread rain, with levels of between 10-20mm in most of the area, rising as high as 40mm in some places.

You'd hope that was the case, but my general impression is the population in general don't know the difference. I am astounded by the number of people who I have heard, in all seriousness, questioning the continued need for hosepipe bans in parts of the country after all the recent rain. I know DA was being humorous, my comment was aimed at the masses. :o)

Thanks tc. By the way, this morning a man was cutting the grass opposite the Odeon at 08.20 and it was pouring down!

I do not think that DA is suffering any failure to understand. Rather, he is being humourous. Surely everybody in the world knows the difference between weather and climate.
