MUM’S the word for a group of 26 preparing to talk their way around a 5km route while raising money for Cancer Research.

The Burrington Walkie Talkies group is hoping to raise more than £1,000 for the charity.

Group member Catrin Jennett said: “The mums in the group are no different to every other mum on the planet.

“We race between changing nappies, loading the dishwasher, making three meals a day and ensuring everyone’s got clean pants to wear, all in speeds which would make Usain Bolt’s eyes water.”

The 26 ladies and five of their daughters will be making the most of their speed when completing the Race For Life.

Catrin said: “We have all been touched by friends or family who have got cancer or who have had cancer scares.

“We want to take a stand together against the effects of this hideous illness.”

Catrin said that while the group don’t mind the day-to-day trials and tribulations of motherhood, they do mind the effects that the disease has upon their loved ones.

She said: “We mind watching friends’ hair fall our as a result of chemotherapy.

“We mind having to see the courage of a mother diagnosed with breast cancer.

“We mind seeing flowers on coffins, rather than in vases.”

The race will start at 11am on July 6 at Ladies Mile in Bristol.
