PEDAL pushers could soon be cycling from Weston to Devon as a new bike route is approved.

Plans for a cycle path between Brean and Weston have been given the go-ahead by council planners.

Sedgemoor District Council has agreed to the renewal of a planning application for the land at Diamond Farm, Weston Road, Brean, to be used as part of a national cycle network.

The new Wessex Cycle Route will eventually link Weston with Seaton and Lyme Regis in Devon, with cyclists passing through Brean and Burnham.

The 100km route is designed to raise the status of cycling by providing numerous community links and will become a flagship for sustainable transport and tourism throughout North Somerset and Somerset.

Development of the cycle route is being overseen by Sustrans Ltd, a nationwide sustainable transport charity.
