A former industrial business faces demolition, with dozens of houses set to be built in its place.

Since Titan Ladders closed its factory in Yatton, the prospect of housing being built in Mendip Road has loomed ever since.

This week, Yatton Developments Ltd has submitted a planning application to North Somerset Council for 39 homes to be built, after the old business is knowck down.

The majority of homes would have three bedrooms, but nine two-bed flats and two four-bedroom houses are also proposed.

In the planning application, it says: “The buildings themselves are in a poor state of repair and their existing condition and inappropriateness in their current state has led to the decision to relocate Titian Ladders to more suitable premises.

“The site is located within a highly-sustainable area, being close to bus stops, shops and local services.

“Frequent bus connections to the local centres and the surrounding area can be found with a short walk.

“The application site is located within the urban area of North Somerset and is strategically positioned within a 15-minute drive of Weston.”

The site has been named within the latest draft of Yatton’s neighbourhood plan as an area suitable for housing.

The application says there are many positives to the scheme, including helping North Somerset Council hit house-building targets and providing homes with ‘countryside views’.

Yatton Developments Ltd is registered as being based in Westbury-on-Trym, in Bristol, according to Companies House.

The plan will be discussed by Yatton Parish Council tomorrow night (Monday).
