An archery centre of excellence could be built in the South West.

Plans have been submitted to build on the Burnham-on-Sea Association of Sports Clubs (BASC) ground, in Old Stoddens Road, by Burnham Company of Archers.

The sport’s national governing body is looking to develop an archery hub in the region and the BASC ground ‘already has the elements necessary in place to make it happen’ after receiving a funding grant.

A spokesman for the club said: “We have elite junior and senior performers, a strong coaching team and a good reputation for holding professional events.”

The proposed indoor building would consist of a shooting hall which will host coaching sessions and competitions.

It is envisaged these will be held mainly during the winter months.

Due to BASC being home to many different sports including rugby, cricket and football, the hall will be built ‘without interfering with the outdoor facilities’.
