A big step has been taken in the next stage of Weston-super-Mare’s Heritage Action Zone (HAZ).

As part of the Historic England-funded Weston HAZ programme, North Somerset Council has appointed Allies and Morrison Urban Practitioners to complete a conservation area appraisal and management plan.

This work will provide an important basis for regeneration in the town centre and look at how the historic properties can be maintained and improved.

Project officer Cara MacMahon said: “If you own a property in a conservation area then you can play a crucial part in keeping these areas special by investing in the upkeep of your property.

“Using traditional designs and materials in replacement windows and doors will increase the value to your property and add to the historic character of the areas.”

A shopfront design and enhancement grants scheme will be developed over the coming months.
