Army cadets from Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead and Yatton were among a 300-strong group who enjoyed an action-packed summer camp last week.

The 100 North Somerset teenagers joined peers from around the region for a 12-day Salisbury Plain adventure camp which saw them tackling activities including gliding, shooting and raft-building.

One cadet said afterwards: “I loved annual camp, mainly because it gives you so much independence and responsibility you wouldn’t get at home or at school.”

Cadet leaders say there are opportunities for others to join the eight cadet groups across the district, while adult leaders are needed too.

Full training and support is offered for what is described as a ‘very rewarding and enriching hobby’.
