North Somerset Council’s leader has agreed to look into the possibility of broadcasting its meetings online.

The authority has looked into the idea before, but it was thought to be too expensive.

Councillor Mike Bell raised the issue at the full council meeting last week.

He said: “Lots of local authorities are broadcasting meetings online.

“I think it is something we should look at.

“One of the messages I have had is people want to know what we are doing to understand decisions.”

North Somerset Council leader Nigel Ashton said he was happy to look into ways the public can participate and engage with the council, and would look into filming meetings again.

He said: “We did look at broadcasting and the cost was phenomenal.

“It may be too expensive to justify for people who possibly want to watch.”

Cllr Bell said the cost of filming may have come down in recent years.
