A North Somerset animal sanctuary opened its gates to the public, offering animal enthusiasts the chance to get their hands on a range of birds of prey.

Congresbury-based North Somerset Birds of Prey Centre (NSBOPC), in Smallway, held an open day on July 30, with lots of people taking up the chance to get up close and personal with a large selection of animals.

In addition to the birds of prey on show, guests got their hands on reptiles and enjoyed presentations on exotic mammals like coatis and corsacs.

A NSBOPC spokesman said: “We’d like to give a special mention to our staff and volunteers.

“They are an incredibly dedicated and hard working group of people who give up their time to be with us.

“They spent several hours working in the rain before the gates opened to get everything ready.

“They are always happy, polite and smiling no matter what the weather. They are a credit to us.”

NSBOPC will host its next open day on August 27.
