Four of the five candidates hoping to be Weston’s next MP have agreed to take questions during the hustings at the college’s Knightstone Campus, in Knightstone Road, on May 26.

Mercury editor Simon Angear said: “This hustings will be a first for us – and for our friends at Weston College, who have worked with us at short notice to put the event together – and we’re really looking forward to a strong turnout, with well over 100 people having registered for a place already.

“This will be one of the most important General Elections in many years, with Brexit negotiations and struggling public services especially high on voters’ lists of priorities when deciding which box to tick on June 8.

“The hustings will be a unique opportunity for people to come and hear our local candidates tell you how they – and their parties – plan to face these key issues, while also offering an insight into the personalities and character of those who wish to be Weston’s MP for the next five years.”

The event starts in the college’s Bistro at 7pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm.

To register for a place, either book a free ticket on EventBrite, email newsdesk@westonmercury.co.uk, or call 01934 422500.

People can turn up on the night, but registering in advance will guarantee access.

The main debate topics for the evening will be the NHS, Brexit, education, housing and crime, but there will be a chance for questions on other topics on the night.

You can send in your own questions by emailing newsdesk@westonmercury.co.uk
