A North Somerset animal sanctuary held a well-attended open day this month, and it is in need of public support.

Avon Owls, in Banwell, opened its doors to the public on May 13, offering families the chance to get up close and personal with a wide range of birds.

The event raised vital funds which will help the sanctuary acquire a new, larger site.

A spokesman said: “All donations from the open day will be used to support our day-to-day operations of the charity, as well as going towards the fund to buy our own plot of land, as our present site is too small for our needs.

“We also need more dedicated volunteers to help with the day-to-day running of the sanctuary.
