Police are investigating the sudden death of a teenage girl in a Somerset village.

A 17-year-old girl died at a property in Cheddar yesterday (Thursday).

Avon and Somerset Constabulary said her death ‘is not being treated as suspicious’.

A police spokesman added: “At about 1.20pm yesterday, we were called to assist the ambulance service following the sudden death of a 17-year-old girl at a property in Cheddar.

“We’re carrying out enquiries on behalf of the coroner’s office.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time.”

A South West Ambulance Service spokesman told the Mercury an ambulance and two rapid response vehicles attended the incident after being called at 12.29pm.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance also attended, landing at Kings of Wessex Academy, but the police stressed the incident did not take place at the school.
