A WELL-known oddity from a Weston park could soon be appearing as an exhibition at the town’s museum.

An oak tree in Grove Park was one of the larger victims of the stormy weather on April 29.

Until then it had featured a piece of metal railing which had been blown into the tree by the force of a bomb explosion during a German air force raid in World War Two.

Since the raid in January 1941 the spike was embedded in the tree and went further in the air as the tree grew.

After the decapitated tree was cut down the railing was recovered and will now feature at an exhibition at Weston Museum in Burlington Street.

John Crockford-Hawley, chairman of Weston Town Council’s museum working party, said: “Hopefully we can arrange something with Weston College whereby one of their artists could use the spike to create a piece of artwork which would remind us of that fateful night in 1941.”
