RARE birds not seen in the South West for eight years have been spotted at a Portbury nature reserve.
A pair of penduline tits was seen from the hide at Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve, much to the delight of warden, Bernie D’Arcy.
She said: “It is the first record for Avon and the last sighting in the South West was 2004.”
Penduline tits build elaborate pear-shaped nests, which dangle from tree branches like pendants – hence the bird’s name.
