A Lympsham man is set to take on the world in the Obstacle Course World Championships, despite having raced only once before.

Rob Drinkwater, who is a tree surgeon by trade, started running with his wife and then took part in the Spartan Obstacle Race in Gloucester without any training.

He came third out of 1,000 participants and will fly to Canada to represent the UK at the World Championships in October.

Rob told the Mercury: “I realise now I actually have to train and so far it is going really well. I can’t believe I have actually done this as I have never run before. My job is very active so I actually find the obstacles the easy part.”
