Hand over the foodbank food to Sainsburys.

A SECONDARY school has got involved with a scheme looking to help families in need.

Youngsters from Priory Community School in Queensway, Worle, are taking part in the Weston Foodbank scheme which provides food for struggling families.

Staff and pupils have collected food to make up nutritionally-balanced boxes and handed them over to the foodbank with the help of nearby Sainsbury’s.

Those receiving the boxes could be families with parents who are between jobs, in financial difficulty, suffering from illness or blighted by drug or alcohol problems.

Joanne Anderson, family liaison officer at the school, said: “We are the only secondary school in the area involved in the scheme, which we are delighted about.

“For some families it is a lifeline and just being able to help out in a difficult time is the best thing of all. It is not about money, it is about helping people.”

Foodbank manager Ian Fraser said: “Working with Priory and Sainsbury’s has been great. Priory refers families to us for emergency foodboxes and importantly, the school is educating its pupils to realise that our community can be changed a tin at a time as we reach out to each other in our moments of struggle.”
