Police officers are investigating how the wendy house was set alight at Kingshill Primary School, in Pound Lane.

The damage was discovered by the school’s caretaker on Tuesday morning but the books and toys kept inside have all been destroyed.

Headteacher Nic Baykaa-Murray said: “I don’t understand the mentality of some individuals. This was a structure used by four-year-olds to learn how to socialise through imaginative play and also a place to enjoy reading. The children are devastated.”

The school council is now planning to meet to discuss how it can raise money to replace the wendy house.

It is the second arson attack the school has suffered in recent years. It suffered a similar incident in 2003.
