An East Huntspill animal charity has launched a shoebox appeal to help it through the Christmas period.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue, based in New Road, wants people to fill boxes with items including dog and cat food, blankets and dog toys.

Head of external relations Samantha Hannay said: “We are encouraging members of the public and schools to get involved and send us shoeboxes filled with goodies that will help us look after the wild animals in our care throughout the winter.”

Shoeboxes can be sent to: Secret World Wildlife Rescue, New Road, East Huntspill, Highbridge, Somerset, TA9 3PZ.

The charity has also given advice for looking after wildlife in gardens this winter, urging people to only put down enough food to sustain an animal’s healthy diet to stop them becoming too reliant on it.
