Communities encouraged to join in with Great British Spring Clean

Litter remains a huge problem across Somerset and town and district councils are encouraging people to get out and clean up the streets.

The Great British Spring Clean is a nationwide campaign which aims to get 500,000 people out and about cleaning up their communities from March 2-4.

Councils across the UK spend more than £700million on street cleaning services a year and Sedgemoor District Council is now backing the plea to tidy up Britain.

It will be loaning a range of support for those who are doing their bit, including free volunteer clean-up kits, containing litter pickers, gloves and rubbish bags.

Groups from Badgworth and Cheddar have already confirmed they are taking part as well as The Friends of Apex Park, in Burnham and Highbridge, along with members of the Sedgemoor Model Boat Club, who will be hosting an organised litter-pick on March 2 from 10am-2pm.
