Somerset Day returns

Somerset Day returns

The second annual Somerset Day is being held next week, with a host of events to enjoy across the county.

Somerset Day was created last year by Passion For Somerset – a group of businesses – and it encourages people to organise a community event which celebrates everything great about the county.

A number of the county’s big-name businesses are getting involved, including Wyke Farm, Thatchers and Miles Tea and Coffee Merchants.

Sandford-based cider company Thatchers has arranged a celebration at The Railway Inn in Station Road at 6.30pm on May 11, when there will be traditional dancing from the Mendip Morris Men, as well as cider and cheese-tasting.

At Marine Cove in Burnham there will be a family fun day from 10am-4pm to celebrate, with stalls selling local cheese, cider and cakes, as well as live music, games and a barbecue.

Somerset Day is being celebrated on May 11, although some events are taking place the following weekend. The date was chosen to commemorate King Alfred the Great and his victory over the Danes in 872AD.

For more information including a round-up of events, search for Somerset Day 2016 on Facebook or follow @SomersetDay1 on Twitter.
