Alliance Homes is running the scheme

A HOUSING association is calling on residents to take pride in their neighbourhoods in a scheme tackling community issues.

Alliance Homes has launched its Street Pride initiative aimed at tackling problems such as untidy gardens and litter.

The group sent a survey to all its residents across North Somerset as part of the scheme to help find ‘environmental antisocial behaviour hotspots’, with results published in the Mercury last week.

Of 333 incidents reported across North Somerset, 94 happened in the centre of the Bournville, comprising 387 properties.

On the Oldmixon estate, there were 69 incidents recorded, including 19 fly-tipping and 16 rubbish incidents.

Only two incidents were reported from the town centre’s 115 Alliance Homes properties.

The association has increased its community wardens from two to five and has a mobile office which moves through the area for people to report concerns to.

Alliance is also looking to start a gardening programme on the Bournville estate’s Chocolate Garden in Lonsdale Avenue, with those taking part receiving a qualification in horticulture.

A spokesman for the association said: “Through Street Pride and other initiatives we are doing what we can to get people to work together as a community and reduce instances of antisocial behaviour. It benefits everyone to take pride in where they live.”
