A SWAN was rescued after becoming trapped in ice on a frozen lake in Highbridge last night (Nov 29).
Members of hovercraft charity Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) responded to a call from East Huntspill-based wildlife rescue centre Secret World to help the stricken bird.
The boat crew broke through the ice at Highbridge’s Apex Wildlife Park to reach the swan and then ease it free.
A Secret World spokesman said: “A walker had reported seeing the bird in a lot of distress as it desperately tried to escape, so with a night of freezing temperatures in store, it was decided to reach it as soon as possible.
“We were grateful for the help of the rescue boat crew.”
