‘Talented and hard-working’ hospital staff celebrated at ‘emotional’ awards night

Medics and support staff who go ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ saw their achievements celebrated at an ‘emotional’ awards night.

Outstanding patient care, job devotion and impeccable teamwork were just some of the reasons why dedicated workers from Weston Area Health NHS Trust (WAHT) – the body behind Weston General Hospital – were recognised.

In a night organisers described as being ‘filled with pride and emotion’, WAHT’s fourth annual Celebration of Success event at Batch Country House in Lypsham saw 13 awards handed out to top performers.

The evening served as thank you from WAHT bosses to staff and volunteers for their hard work, while the awards recognised those working both on the frontline and behind the scenes for their outstanding patient care and dedication to the Trust and the wider NHS, as well as their strong team ethos.

Sheridan Flavin, the Trust’s human resources director, said: “The awards ceremony celebrates the approach, conduct and professionalism of everyone who works in the Trust. We know all our staff and volunteers strive to do a great job.”

Award categories celebrated both medical workers and support staff, and all saw winners who display exemplary conduct in their daily roles.

Winning teams and individuals were presented with excellence awards in the form of trophies and certificates after being nominated by colleagues.

One winner was described as having ‘a selfless attitude that goes above and beyond the call of duty’, while another was said to ‘work tirelessly to ensure a high-quality service for patients’.

The evening also included a disco and a performance from the hospital’s own Sliding Scales Choir.

Trust chief executive James Rimmer said: “Our staff continue to accomplish great things that have a profound impact on people’s lives, despite the pressures and challenges faced by the NHS.

“I’m extremely proud of the talented, hard-working staff and volunteers we have here at Weston.

“These awards are our way of thanking and recognising those who go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care and help make the trust a better place to work for all of us.”
