TWO petitions featuring a total of 4,274 signatures objecting the demolition of the Tropicana were submitted to North Somerset Council last week.
Members of Trop (WSM) Ltd, Derek Mead and Jon Harrap, handed over thousands of signatures which they collected along with 399 letters, also opposing the demolition. Mr Harrap also succeeded in getting an anonymous 800-name petition opposing demolition to be acknowledged by the council, even though it was not formally presented.

Jon I am thrilled that the business community is playing such an active role! If you succeed in this you will have shown that there is hope for Weston as a sea side resort. I know "Saint" Ap Rees, "Puppet" Ashton, "Poison" Shopton and the rest of the Muppet brigade will make it near to impossible for you as possible.... but I hope you can fight them and win. Just be prepared if they loose expect them to give you hell and take all the credit and glory..... and if it fails they will be even more venomous than ever, but you have right on your side! Good luck the vast majority of Weston support you and so does a government Minister, Mr Penrose we are watching this!!!

You are spot on Mel, the only area gauranteed to be able to offer a seafront swim paddle is Marine Lake. There always has been a mud issue here, however the council and their contractors have no control over the drongo's who chuck bottles, trolleys and other waste into it, or the idiots who dont clear up their waste, including bottles, barb ques etc which remain around the lake edges. The only answer I get when phoning the Town Hall to report broken glass etc, is 'we shall get our contractors to take a look at this'. Why are they not there anyway looking or why do the council not check on what we are paying the contractors to do? Again no idea of being able to manage the preverbial in a brewery Im afraid! Look how popular the small Portishead Pool is in the summer, guess how popular the Trop could be if bought up to Mr Meads spec for tourists & locals alike - BRILLIANT!

The swimming pool on the sea front is an important feature of Weston. If anything is likely to keep the tourist numbers up it is to be able to have regular clean safe swimming available near the sea. Good luck.

Jon, don't get me wrong, I support the case for saving the Trop, but, from posts regarding other council stories, it seems the are elements in NSC who have an attitude of righteousness and will not listen to reason. I hope the petition succeeds.

Oh Please!! What gets handed to the council may go straight in the bin! Hand it to Weston MP John Penrose then maybe it will succeed.

Please dont let this be another petition the council ignores! Let Trop (WSM) Ltd try to save this landmark for Westons Sea Front.
