THE lights outside a historic ruined church will be paid for by a town council – as long as North Somerset Council pays for new fittings.
Weston Town Council’s policy and finance committee has agreed to pay the electricity for the ruined St Nicholas Church on the hill at Uphill.
North Somerset Council decided to stop paying for the lights, which cost around £330 a year at the time, at the end of last year.
It will cost Weston Town Council about £380 a year for the electricity for the Grade II-listed building.
But it wants the lights to be replaced by new LED lighting by North Somerset Council before it takes over.
