Traffic is moving slowly on the M5 southbound between junctions 20 and 21 due to a ‘medical emergency’.

There are lane closures between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare due to a vehicle collision.

Traffic conditions are not expected to return to normal until 4.30 and 5pm today (Saturday).

An air ambulance has been called to the scene.

A spokesman for Highways England said: “Once the air ambulance has safely lifted-off with the casualty, traffic on the M5 southbound between junctions 20 and 21 can start to move again.

“There are currently 3 miles of queuing traffic.”

*UPDATE* All lanes on the M5 southbound between junctions 20 and 21 have now reopened.
