COMMUNITY leaders given the task of finding a solution for the Tropicana have met for the first time yesterday (Thurs).

The cross-party gang of 10 North Somerset councillors spent the meeting reviewing past schemes for the former attraction and why they did not come off.

The group was set up to explore uses, both short and longer term, for the derelict site.

Chairman of the group, councillor Elfan Ap Rees said: “Part of the meeting was spent reviewing the lessons we have learned from the past and why previous over ambitious schemes have failed.

“We now need to move forward and look at realistic and affordable options for the future of the site, particularly in the short term.

“It was a very positive meeting and I am confident the site can be brought back into some kind of leisure use in the near future.”

A series of regular meetings have been planned for the group over the next four months.
