More than 60 schools, colleges, and children’s centres are closed after heavy overnight showers.
Around three inches fell from about 3am, with further flakes continuing to fall into the morning.

Several roads are already closed, too, with conditions judged impassable.
North Somerset Council gritters are working overtime to try to keep major commuter routes clear.
A spokesman said: “Road conditions remaining difficult but main routes are still passable with care. Looks like conditions will remain similar for the next few hours at least.

“Officers are continuing to monitor conditions of the road network and will be arranging appropriate salting/ ploughing operations as resources allow.”
RNLI spokesman Glyn Hayes has issued some tips to help people stay safe in the sub-zero weather.
He said: “In this weather people are much more likely to suffer from exposure and they need to make sure they are properly prepared for the weather as it is the wind as well as the snow.

“Ice is the next problem, as people may think that it looks like good fun to go out onto ice but of course it may well not be able to hold their weight, so people need to be mindful of that.
“The main thing is to wrap up warm.”
