Despite the fact that the £36million rebuild has stuttered recently because of the extreme weather conditions, the new multi-million attraction has now become a recognisable shape on the town's landscape.

This week the Weston Mercury was invited to get a first proper look at the inside of the state-of-the-art pavilion - and what an awesome sight it was.

With imposing features and stunning views, business partners Kerry and Michelle Michael really are giving it their best shot to create the 'best pier in the world' as promised after the devastating fire of 2008.

Kerry Michael said: "We are determined to make this a pier that Weston can be proud of and one that generation after generation can enjoy.

"We want to help Weston grow into a top tourist destination and I believe the new pier can help it do that."

With 85 yard roof sheets on the pier waiting to go on to the pavilion, the eagerly-anticipated scheme is reaching its later phases.

Once the final building work has been completed there will be a host of finishing touches to the building, including three miles of LED lights, before the anticipated handover date of June 25.

Contractors were able to create the floor of the third level plant room and the 250-seat conference room at the front of the next one down last week.

The state-of-the-art pavilion is due to house a bar around three times bigger than the previous one, a Victorian tea room and a central canopy that would run the whole length of the pier, with sides that could close in bad weather.

Kerry and Michelle Michael have also been travelling worldwide to choose the best rides for the attraction.
