Yatton businesses have agreed with the parish council and the PACT group that their lorries will travel at 20mph along a popular school walking route. The limit is currently 30mph.

The voluntary speed limit will apply from the mini-roundabout at the junction with Wemberham Lane along North End Road and High Street as far as the mini-roundabout at the junction with Claverham Road.

David Crossman, chairman of Yatton Parish Council, said: “I am delighted to have the co-operation of local businesses in reducing speeds along the High Street, and making Yatton a safer place for everyone.”

Discussions between the parish council and North Somerset Council are continuing over raising the pavement to prevent lorries mounting the pavement.

Last month more than a dozen parents raised concerns over how close lorries were to knocking over children walking to and from school.
