NEW volunteers are needed to help to keep the Weston branch of the Samaritans open.

People are being asked to step forward to man the phones at the High Street centre, where calls are taken from vulnerable or distressed people.

There are opportunities to volunteer for day and night shifts, with full training and support provided.

The Samaritans will be holding two information events on Wednesday and July 18 for anyone interested in becoming a listening or support volunteer.

The events will explain more about what it means to become a Samaritan volunteer.

A charity spokesman said: “We are looking not only for listening volunteers to man the helplines but also support volunteers for anyone who can help with publicity, fundraising, IT, admin and secretarial duties or cleaning.”

The sessions are at 7.30pm on Wednesday and at 10am on the Saturday and the presentation should last no more than an hour. These are held at the Samaritans Centre at 137A High Street.

To confirm you are going to attend or for further details call 01934 621240 and leave a message or email samaritansrecruitmentwsm@yahoo.com or visit www.wsmsamaritans.org.uk
