Weston-super-Mare’s war memorial needs to be repaired in time for the centenary of World War One, town councillors have said.
The olive branch held by the memorial’s angel, in Grove Park, has been missing for decades.
Weston Town Council started investigating how the sculpture could be restored at the beginning of the year.
The initial condition surveys have been completed, and the council has applied to the War Memorial Trust for funding to repair it.
Cllr Mark Canniford said: “We have 12 months before the anniversary of World War One, and it is so important to have it done because it is such an important historic moment.
“We have got to jimmy the process along a little bit.”
Cllr James Davies, who is the council’s armed forces champion, said he was pushing for it to be completed in time for the anniversary.
The council is also having a survey completed on the war memorial in Worle.
