PUTTING a ramp on a pond can be the difference between life and death for hedgehogs – that is the message from the head of a rescue centre after one of the prickly critters was rescued from a moat.
Jules Bishop, head of Prickles rescue centre in Cheddar, took in an exhausted hedgehog after Paul and Carol Arblaster rescued it from a moat in Wells using a fishing net.
Ms Bishop said: “Hedgehogs can swim short distances but often get into difficulty when they fall into water and are unable to climb out, providing a ramp in garden ponds can be the difference between life and death.
“The little chap was lucky have been spotted, we think he had been there for a while as he was exhausted. He is recovering from his ordeal at Prickles.”
