A golf day has raised thousands of pounds for the Weston-super-Mare branch of a national charity.

The golf event was held at the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club, in Lineage, to raise funds for the Weston and North Somerset branch of the Samaritans.

The competition was enjoyed by 30 teams who put their skills to the test to raise £5,500.

A team from the Ratcliffe Brothers garage in Wedmore took home the trophy, beating their closest rivals by three points.

The event – organised by six of the charity’s volunteers – was supported by the club, its pro golfer Tom Hiscock and businesses across North Somerset.

Organiser David Cole said: “It was a fabulous day, blessed by good weather, and we are very grateful to everyone who took part and supported this event.”

The Samaritans is in desperate need of money to upgrade its Weston branch in High Street.
