Weston-super-Mare care home helps raise thousands for charity

A Weston-super-Mare care home has helped raise £50,000 for a cancer research charity.

Residents at Lakeside Court in Jasmine Way held raffles, coffee mornings and cake baking sessions along with more than 240 Hanover Housing Association homes across the country to raise the money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan senior fundraising manager Leena Sirpal said: “We are extremely grateful for the fundraising efforts from the Hanover communities across the country.

“They have raised an incredible amount of money over the past year which will benefit many people living with cancer.”

Hanover chairman Dr Stuart Burgess added: “This really is a tremendous fundraising effort to help support the many friends, colleagues and loved ones who have faced cancer.

“I am particularly impressed by the enthusiasm of our residents, many of whom are retirees.”
