One of Weston Football Club’s top strikers is not only making a name for himself on the pitch – but also on the small screen, as he stars in reality television show Gogglebox.

Tristan Plummer returned to play for the club, nicknamed the Seagulls, at the start of this season but can now also be seen on the Channel 4 show.

The show features a number of families and friends watching television in the comfort of their home – and the reactions are sometimes hilarious, meaning it has become a huge hit.

Tristan, aged 27, told the Mercury he was approached while minding his own business in Bristol and thought it might all be a ruse.

He said: “Me and my brothers were approached and they said they were trying to get people on the show Gogglebox.

“But I thought it was a joke until they came over with the equipment.

“We then auditioned and you really are just watching television and talking about it. We have done two series and are now filming the third.

“I really hope we get a new contract as it is really fun. And it is good for me to just spend time with my brothers.

“We were close before but this has brought us even closer and we really do just sit and have a laugh together, but just with some cameras filming us. It takes about five hours to film, and when I was playing for Hereford it was quite hard to juggle everything but it is a lot easier now I am in Weston.”

He is in his fourth spell at The Woodspring Stadium and said the rest of the team always mention his exploits on Channel 4 when they are training or before and after matches.

He said: “The lads always give me a bit of banter, but it is good.

“I kind of expect that and to be honest it is just so much fun. I love filming the show and I love playing football so I cannot complain.”

The striker also told the Mercury he is loving being back in Weston and approached newly-appointed manager Marc McGregor – who was also once a player and assistant manager at the club – about coming back.

He said: “As soon as I saw Marc was back, I called him and said I wanted to come back. We have a really good group at Weston.”
