The hospice, in Uphill, opened up its doors on Sunday to celebrate the success of the unit since it was opened by Jill Dando in 1997.

The charity, which began in a church hall in 1989, is renowned for the care and support it offers to its patients and their loved ones.

Sarah Eckett and Lizzy Tuohy have been working in the in-patient unit for 20 years. Sarah said: “I love the work, the time you are able to give to those in need, to hold a hand and to listen.

“Caring for patients in a comfortable setting that is as homely as possible, working alongside a dedicated team of friends and colleagues, is a real privilege.”

Lizzy added: “I am so proud to be part of such a warm, friendly, caring team of people. I look forward to the future and what it has in store for our in-patient unit.”
