Weston Museum, launches its Rusty Club, for young archaeologists.

An archaeology and history club for children was launched at Weston Museum at the weekend.

The Rusty Club will give youngsters aged eight to 16 the chance to learn more about history and go on visits.

The museum, in Burlington Street, held an open day on Saturday, and it managed to fill 70 per cent of the club’s spaces.

Children took part in some mosaic activities, and looked at the finds people had made while using metal detectors.

The club is named after the museum’s mascot, an iron age dog skeleton called Rusty.

The open day was attended by county archaeologist Cat Lodge, and Wookie the dog, who is a similar breed to the skeleton.

The Rusty Club meets on the first Saturday of every month, and its inaugural session will take place
on May 12 where children will learn about the bronze age.

Youngsters will take a trip to Banwell’s bone cave in June.
